Price is per vehicle, one-way, taxes included. 7–14 pax uses a van: VIP +$40 on local zones; quoted in the form.
What STI is
Cibao International Airport (STI, ICAO MDST) is the gateway to Santiago de los Caballeros and the Cibao valley, serving the north-central Dominican Republic rather than the beach resorts. It has a single passenger terminal, which makes it small and quick to move through compared with the bigger coastal airports.
Airlines flying into STI include JetBlue, American, Delta, United, Frontier, Arajet, Copa, Sky High and Avianca, with direct routes to New York (JFK), Miami, Boston, Newark, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Charlotte, Panama City and San Juan.
Most passengers are either headed into Santiago itself — the country's second city, with its own business and university districts — or connecting on to Puerto Plata, Cabarete, Sosúa and the north coast, or up into the mountains around Jarabacoa.
What happens between landing and your driver
With one terminal there is no guessing which exit to watch: every arriving flight goes through the same immigration hall, baggage claim and customs area. Dominican immigration now runs on the e-ticket system, so keep the QR code or printed slip from your online form ready alongside your passport.
Because the terminal is compact, the walk from the aircraft to immigration is short and baggage claim rarely takes long once the belt starts moving. Realistically, allow 20 to 40 minutes from landing to the arrivals doors on a normal day.
Past customs you walk out into a public arrivals area where drivers wait with printed signs. Ours stands there with the name you gave us when you booked — that's why we ask for it, so finding each other takes seconds instead of a phone call.
Ways out of the airport
There are three realistic options. Airport taxis are available at the curb with no booking needed, but the fare is negotiated on the spot and is usually noticeably higher than a pre-arranged price for the same trip. Ride-hailing apps exist in Santiago city, but airport pickups are unreliable in practice — cars are scarce right at arrivals and drivers often cancel rather than drive out to STI.
A pre-booked private transfer is one vehicle reserved for your party only, at a fixed price agreed in writing before you fly, with no metre and no curbside negotiation.
We only run private vehicles — there is no shared shuttle in our fleet, so your price is for the whole car and does not change if the flight is late or you are last out of baggage claim.
Choosing a vehicle
One to six passengers with normal luggage travel in an SUV or minivan. Seven to fourteen travel in a passenger van, which carries a small surcharge on local zones. Golf bags, surfboards, wheelchairs, strollers and car seats all fit — tell us in advance so the right vehicle is sent rather than the smallest one that technically has enough seats.
VIP is the same route in a newer, larger vehicle with more room per passenger. Both tiers get the same flight tracking and the same name-sign meet at arrivals.
Getting back to STI
Departure pickups are timed backwards from your flight and from where you're staying. As a rule of thumb we collect three hours before departure from Santiago, Licey and Tamboril, and four hours from Puerto Plata, Sosúa, Cabarete or further, because the road, not the airport, is the variable.
Traffic in central Santiago builds during the morning and evening rush and on Sunday evenings as weekend traffic returns on the Autopista Duarte; the mountain road to Jarabacoa and the Cordillera Septentrional pass to Puerto Plata are also slower after dark. Leaving early costs nothing; leaving late costs a flight.

Book on WhatsAppCibao International Airport (STI): arrivals, transport and drive times — questions we get daily
- How long does it take to get out of STI airport?
- From landing to the arrivals doors, expect 20 to 40 minutes including immigration, baggage claim and customs. With a single terminal there is only one flow to move through, so it's rarely worse than that.
- Where does the driver meet me at STI?
- In the public arrivals area just outside customs, holding a printed sign with the name you gave when booking. You don't need to call or search — there is only one exit.
- What documents do I need for Dominican immigration?
- Your passport and the QR code from the Dominican Republic's e-ticket (online entry/exit form), completed before you land. Most airlines also remind passengers to fill it in during the flight.
- Is Uber reliable at Cibao International Airport?
- Not really for arrivals. Ride-hailing operates in Santiago city, but cars are scarce right at the airport and pickups are often cancelled, which is why most travellers either take a curbside taxi or book a private transfer in advance.
- What's the price difference between an airport taxi and a booked transfer at STI?
- Airport taxi fares are negotiated at the curb and typically run higher than the same trip booked in advance, especially to Puerto Plata, Sosúa or Cabarete. A pre-booked transfer fixes the price per vehicle before you land, with no negotiation on arrival.
- How early should I leave for a flight from STI?
- Three hours before departure from Santiago, Licey and Tamboril. Four hours from Puerto Plata, Sosúa, Cabarete, Jarabacoa or anywhere further, since the drive time matters more than the airport itself.
