Distances are road distances from the terminal, rounded to the nearest 5 km. Drive times are door to door in normal daytime traffic on the Autopista Duarte, the Gregorio Luperón highway and the mountain roads to Jarabacoa and Constanza.

Why our drive times are longer than the map says
A mapping app measures gate to gate on an empty road. A real transfer includes the loop out of the airport onto the Autopista Duarte, traffic through Santiago or Puerto Plata town, and the last stretch into a hotel driveway. We quote the whole trip, which is why Puerto Plata is 60 to 80 minutes rather than the 55 a map alone suggests.
The Autopista Duarte toward La Vega and Santo Domingo, and the Gregorio Luperón highway over the Cordillera Septentrional toward Puerto Plata, are both good roads and not normally congested outside rush hour. The mountain road via Jarabacoa is slower after dark and in rain.
Near, middle and far zones
Licey, Tamboril and Santiago itself are the near zone — 10 to 15 km, 10 to 25 minutes, and you can be at your hotel before an airport taxi has finished loading. Gurabo, Moca and La Vega form the middle band at 20 to 40 km, roughly 20 to 45 minutes.
Jarabacoa, Puerto Plata, Playa Dorada, Sosúa and Cabarete run 65 to 105 km and 60 to 105 minutes over the mountain pass or the north-coast highway. Santo Domingo, Samaná and the cross-island run to Punta Cana are the long trips, from about 155 km up to 350 km, and are far more comfortable in a private car than in anything shared.
Night and early-morning drives
Between roughly 10pm and 6am the city and highways are clear, so drive times fall to the lower end of each band for routes through Santiago and along the Autopista Duarte. We don't charge a night surcharge.
The exception is the mountain roads: the pass to Puerto Plata and the road up to Jarabacoa are unlit in places, so drivers take those a little slower after dark regardless of traffic — the fixed price stays the same either way.

- About 15 km by road, a 15 to 25 minute drive door to door in normal traffic. Licey and Tamboril, right by the airport road, are closer still at around 10 km.
