Car seats, boosters and what to tell us
Car seats are provided on request and fitted before pickup, at no extra charge. What we need from you is the child's age and approximate weight for each seat — that is what determines whether it is an infant carrier, a convertible seat or a booster. Send it with the booking rather than on the day, because seats are allocated per vehicle in the morning.
You are also welcome to bring your own seat. It travels free in the trunk and the driver will help fit it. Many parents prefer their own for the airline legs anyway.
- Infant carrier, convertible seat or booster — say the age and weight
- Seats are fitted before the vehicle leaves for the airport, not at the curb
- No charge for seats, and no charge for the children themselves
- Bringing your own seat is fine and does not count against your luggage
Strollers, luggage and the space you actually need
A family of four with two large suitcases, two carry-ons and a stroller does not fit comfortably in a standard SUV once a car seat is installed. This is the most common under-booking we see. Tell us the stroller — travel buggy or full pram makes a real difference — and we size the vehicle accordingly, usually at the same destination rate.
Landing at night with children
A share of North American arrivals land at STI in the evening. The drive is the easy part for Santiago, Licey/Tamboril and Gurabo — light traffic and a short run — but the roads to Puerto Plata, Sosúa, Cabarete or up into Jarabacoa are longer and are better driven with a rested vehicle than a rushed one.
Practical advice from the desk: keep one small bag with water, wipes and a change of clothes in hand luggage, do the nappy change in the terminal rather than the car park, and message us on WhatsApp once you are through immigration so the vehicle is already pulled up when you reach the exit.
The mountain road to Jarabacoa with children
The drive up to Jarabacoa climbs steadily through the foothills and has more bends than the flat Autopista Duarte run. It is a comfortable drive in daylight, and a fine one at night too, but families with small children sometimes prefer to schedule an afternoon pickup rather than the very last flight of the day so the last stretch is not done half-asleep. We are happy to plan around that.
Book a family transfer
Tell us the ages of the children, the stroller and your hotel or villa. We confirm the vehicle and have the seats fitted before you land.
Book on WhatsAppFrequently asked
- Do car seats cost extra?
- No. Seats are provided and fitted free of charge. We just need each child's age and approximate weight in advance so the right seat is in the vehicle.
- Do children count towards the passenger limit?
- Yes, for seating and safety — an infant in a carrier still occupies a seat. But children do not change the price: the rate is per vehicle, not per person.
- Can I bring my own car seat?
- Absolutely. It travels free and the driver will help install it. Many families prefer their own seat because they need it for the flight anyway.
- We land at night with a baby. Is that a problem?
- Not for us. Night pickups cost the same as daytime pickups and the seat is already fitted. Message us when you clear immigration and the vehicle meets you outside arrivals.
- Is the mountain road to Jarabacoa safe for young children at night?
- Yes, our drivers do it regularly, but if you would rather not do the climb after dark we can plan your booking around an earlier flight or an overnight in Santiago first.
