Playa Encuentro Surf Lessons: Planning Your STI Arrival and Hotel Pickup
Flying into STI for surfing in Cabarete? Separate your surf camp arrival from the Encuentro lesson meeting point, check included transport and plan pickup.

Confirm the school’s meeting point and any included transport before booking a separate vehicle. Your Cabarete accommodation, surf camp reception and beach school may be different places. An airport transfer to your accommodation does not automatically include the journey to your lesson.
Separate the accommodation address from the lesson meeting point
Cibao International Airport (STI) serves Santiago de los Caballeros. It is distinct from Puerto Plata’s Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP). Make sure the school and transport provider know where you are landing.
Playa Encuentro is a surfing destination near Cabarete on the Dominican Republic’s north coast. A school may ask you to meet at its beach premises, a reception desk or a departure point for its own transport. Identify the actual destination for each journey.
| Journey | Destination | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| STI to accommodation | Property on your lodging reservation | Full address and vehicle access |
| Accommodation to lesson | School’s confirmed meeting point | Whether the school already includes the ride |
| STI directly to a lesson | Exact school and accepted arrival arrangement | Time from landing and luggage storage |
| Collection after surfing | Agreed vehicle meeting point | Contact method, pickup time and onward address |
Check whether the school already arranges transport
Ask whether your booking includes transport or the school merely helps arrange it. Confirm coverage of your exact accommodation, the alternative meeting point if needed, both directions, whether companions can travel and what happens if the lesson time changes.
A camp shuttle may have a fixed meeting point and shared schedule. A private journey can be requested around your group, subject to acceptance. Keep the school’s transport confirmation with the lesson booking.
Should you go straight from STI to your lesson?
Allow for arrival formalities, checked baggage, meeting the driver and the road journey. Leaving suitcases at your accommodation adds another stage. Driving time alone is not the interval from landing to being ready for a lesson.
Accommodation first: go to your lodging, arrange luggage and check-in, then attend a separately confirmed lesson. School first: travel directly only after the school accepts your arrival plan and confirms the meeting point and what can happen to your luggage.
Confirm early check-in or luggage storage before relying on either. For a fixed morning lesson, compare with arriving the previous day. A car booking does not reserve an instructor or change the lesson time.
Get a meeting point the driver can use
Ask for the school’s full name, a current map pin and the point where a vehicle should stop. Clarify whether the pin marks the school desk, the beach or vehicle access, and ask for a description in words.
If the last part is on foot, establish where the driver drops you off and where you will meet afterwards. Disclose any assistance needs before booking. A beach name alone does not identify the instructor or authorize driving onto the sand.
Plan around the equipment you will carry
If lesson equipment is included, confirm where you collect and return it. You may not need to move a board between your accommodation and the beach.
For your own gear, list all passengers and companions, suitcases, day bags, board-bag counts and packed dimensions, especially length. Say whether the case is rigid or flexible. Have the complete load accepted, since seat count does not establish cargo fit.
Tell the provider if equipment will be wet on the return and agree how to prepare it for loading.
Arrange travel-luggage storage before the lesson
Ask whether the school can accept suitcases, where they will remain and when you can collect them. Confirm any hotel storage before check-in or after checkout directly with the property.
A vehicle does not automatically wait or store luggage after drop-off. A direct journey, a vehicle waiting through the lesson and separate later collection are different requests. Confirm availability, terms and price.
Coordinate pickup around the whole visit
Ask what the stated lesson duration covers. Allow for check-in, fitting, briefing, returning rental equipment and changing afterwards.
Agree whether collection is timed or requested when ready, the contact method and any waiting conditions. Save the contact, meeting point, procedure for a changed finish and a fallback if your phone is unavailable.
Mention any beach time or different onward destination before booking.
Keep lesson and flight changes separate
Ask how the school communicates a change of time or location. Give the transport provider the new details and get acceptance before relying on a changed ride.
If your incoming flight changes, give dispatch the new flight details and contact the school separately. Each booking has its own waiting, change and cancellation terms.
Send one clear transport request
Give STI VIP the exact accommodation or school destination when enquiring about the airport journey. Ask separately whether any local lesson journeys can be accepted and obtain written confirmation of the full itinerary.
