STI to a U.S. Visa Appointment in Santo Domingo: Embassy or VAC?

Flying into STI for a U.S. visa appointment in Santo Domingo? Confirm Embassy or VAC, the correct address, luggage arrangements and pickup after your visit.

Check whether your appointment confirmation names the U.S. Embassy or the Visa Application Center (VAC) before booking your car. They are different destinations in Santo Domingo. Use the address and reporting instructions for your own appointment, then arrange the airport journey, any hotel stop and the pickup afterwards.

Identify the destination on each confirmation

Cibao International Airport (STI) serves Santiago de los Caballeros. Reaching an appointment in Santo Domingo requires a separate road journey. STI is not Santo Domingo’s Las Américas Airport (SDQ), and an SDQ airport transfer is not a transfer to the Embassy or VAC.

Start with the appointments actually confirmed for you. Do not build the itinerary from an old map listing, another applicant’s experience or a general instruction that does not apply to your reservation.

Write down the institution, appointment date, reporting time and full address for every visit. The table identifies different destinations; it is not an instruction to book every type of visit. Build the transport plan from your own current confirmations.

Keep separate visits separate

If you have appointments at both locations, record each independently. Do not assume they are on the same day, that you can choose their order or that a vehicle booking creates enough time between them.

Ask for a separate road estimate between the confirmed addresses. Include the first visit’s uncertain finishing time when assessing any later appointment.

Request a city-address transfer, not an SDQ airport transfer

The STI to Santo Domingo city transfer page is the relevant starting point for the road enquiry.

State the actual destination at the beginning: Embassy, VAC or accommodation first. “Santo Domingo” alone leaves the endpoint unresolved.

Send dispatch the address and the arrival instructions needed for transport. A map pin can help, but should not replace the institution and address on your confirmation. Ask whether the exact destination and complete itinerary can be accepted before relying on the booking.

Work backwards from the required arrival

Use the reporting instruction for your appointment, rather than treating its displayed time as the moment the car should reach the street. For an STI arrival, include the stages below.

The STI arrival guide explains the airport stages. A published driving estimate does not include the entire interval between landing and being ready for an appointment.

A private vehicle cannot recover time by bypassing airport formalities or a destination’s screening.

  • Leaving the aircraft and completing arrival formalities.
  • Baggage collection where applicable.
  • Meeting the driver and loading the vehicle.
  • The road journey to the confirmed address.
  • A separate traffic reserve and the destination’s required arrival steps.

Consider arriving before appointment day

For a fixed morning appointment, compare a same-day flight plan with arriving earlier and staying overnight.

The useful question is not simply whether the road journey fits. It is whether the complete plan still works when the flight, baggage or traffic takes longer than expected.

If you stay in Santo Domingo, confirm the next day’s local transfer separately. An airport-to-hotel booking does not automatically include a later Embassy or VAC journey.

Decide where your travel luggage will go

Arriving directly from an international flight may mean carrying suitcases that you do not need for the appointment.

The Embassy’s published immigrant-visa interview instructions state that storage is unavailable there. Arrange luggage before reaching the entrance.

Confirm any hotel storage directly with the property, including access before check-in or after checkout. If someone else will keep your belongings, agree where they will be and how you will retrieve them.

Do not assume that the transfer vehicle stays nearby or becomes a luggage-storage service after dropping you off. A waiting vehicle, separate later pickup and storage arrangement each need explicit acceptance.

Check the rules for your particular site

Review the current instructions for bags, phones and other electronics at the location you will visit. The Embassy’s published instructions prohibit laptops, cameras and recording equipment; check the complete rules that apply to your visit.

Do not assume that the VAC has identical arrangements or that a nearby storage service will be available. Resolve any uncertainty before leaving your accommodation.

Plan the pickup without relying on phone access

Save the transport contact and agreed meeting instructions somewhere you can use after the visit.

If you may be unable to carry or use your phone, agree a fallback beforehand. This could involve a named companion who remains reachable or another arrangement expressly accepted by the transport provider.

The phone and connectivity guide helps with the airport portion. For the appointment itself, confirm how you will contact dispatch after leaving. Agree a permitted meeting point rather than expecting the car to wait at an entrance indefinitely. Include a clear description that passenger and driver can identify.

Confirm companions and assistance separately

Count everyone travelling in the vehicle, including children and companions who may not enter the appointment.

Ask the appointment service who may accompany you inside and what arrangements apply if you need assistance. Do not infer admission from being included in the transport booking. If a companion waits elsewhere, confirm where and whether that changes collection. The driver should not be assumed to supervise children or provide assistance inside.

For vehicle planning, describe the practical requirement: child seats, a folding mobility aid, help boarding or additional luggage. Have the arrangement confirmed before travel.

Share the journey details needed for transport

The transport team needs the passenger name, contact, appointment location, reporting time, flight and luggage details.

It does not ordinarily need a complete visa application to understand the route. Instead of forwarding an entire appointment pack, provide a short journey summary and relevant address instructions.

If a relative or assistant is booking, identify who receives changes and give the passenger their own copy. The third-party booking guide explains the handover. Keep appointment and transport confirmations as separate records: one confirms the visit, the other the accepted road arrangements.

Booking an STI transfer for someone else

Reassess both bookings when something changes

If the incoming flight changes, send dispatch the new operating flight number, local date, airport and arrival time.

Separately follow the appointment service’s instructions if you may not arrive as required. Adjusting the car does not reschedule the appointment. The flight-change guide explains information useful for airport pickup.

If the appointment changes instead, update the car booking with its new date, site and time. Do not assume another address, extra wait or another hotel night is covered by the original price.

Flight-change guide

Keep the onward journey provisional where necessary

An appointment time does not establish when the visit will finish. Agree how the return pickup will be activated or timed, including waiting conditions.

If your process involves leaving your passport, confirm return arrangements through the official service before relying on an onward flight. An interview ending is not confirmation that the document is available for travel.

Check the next journey separately: hotel, another appointment, STI or another airport. Do not treat those destinations as interchangeable.

Send one complete transport request

Use a request that identifies the road journey without sending unnecessary application material, as in the example below.

To discuss the airport journey with STI VIP, request your transfer and state the exact appointment destination. Obtain written confirmation of every additional journey before treating the itinerary as arranged.

We arrive at STI on [flight and local date]. We need [accommodation first / direct transfer] to [Embassy or VAC, full confirmed address]. Our reporting instruction is [date and time]. There are [passengers and companions], with [luggage and practical requirements]. Our luggage arrangement is [confirmed plan]. After the visit we need [destination], with pickup coordinated through [agreed contact or fallback]. Please confirm acceptance, vehicle, drop-off and collection points, any waiting, the total price and change conditions.
