Flying into STI and Out of POP: Plan Both Airport Transfers

Arriving at Santiago’s STI airport and flying home from Puerto Plata’s POP? Plan each transfer, confirm the final hotel and avoid booking the wrong return.

If you land at Cibao International Airport (STI) in Santiago and fly home from Gregorio Luperón Airport (POP) in Puerto Plata, plan two separate airport journeys: STI to your first accommodation, then your final accommodation to POP. Ask for each route, price and pickup arrangement to be confirmed explicitly.

Start with the airport codes on your flight confirmations

Your departure transfer is not automatically the reverse of your arrival transfer. A booking described simply as ‘return airport transfer’ can leave an important detail unclear: which airport you need on the way home. This matters whether you spend the whole holiday in Cabarete or divide your stay between Santiago and the north coast.

STI and POP are different airports. STI is Cibao International Airport, serving Santiago de los Caballeros. POP is Gregorio Luperón Airport, associated with Puerto Plata. ‘Puerto Plata’ can also mean the city or your accommodation area. When arranging your departure, write ‘Gregorio Luperón Airport, POP’, rather than only ‘Puerto Plata’.

Use the airport codes and local dates shown on your flight confirmations. Do not rely on the city name remembered from a flight search, particularly if you compared several airports before purchasing. If you are still choosing flights, use the airport comparison for broader context. Once you have booked, your actual flight itinerary should drive the transfer request.

Build the journey around your first and last accommodation

The first hotel determines where you go after landing. The last hotel determines where your departure vehicle collects you. They may be different properties. Write the plan as individual journeys.

For example, a traveller might land at STI, stay in Cabarete and leave from POP a week later. That requires an STI-to-Cabarete arrival journey and a separately confirmed Cabarete-to-POP departure journey. The STI-to-Cabarete transfer page describes the arrival route. Its airport-transfer information should not be treated as a quote or departure schedule for the later POP journey.

If you change hotels during the holiday

A few nights in Santiago followed by a coastal stay adds another transport requirement. The final airport pickup should use the coastal property, not the Santiago hotel where you first checked in.

Use the hotel-to-hotel transfer guide to prepare that separate moving-day journey. Make clear which rides you want quoted and which are already arranged elsewhere.

Do not confuse this with a direct STI-to-POP connection

A direct airport connection takes you from STI to POP as one road journey. A holiday with an STI arrival and POP departure usually has accommodation and several days between those airport movements. These are different requests.

The direct STI-to-POP connection page applies to the airport-to-airport journey. Its published fare does not automatically cover your arrival hotel transfer plus a later hotel-to-POP pickup. Describe the actual sequence instead of asking for an ‘STI–POP transfer’ when you mean two rides separated by a holiday.

  • Direct connection: collect at STI and drive to POP for an onward flight.
  • Holiday itinerary: collect at STI, drive to accommodation, then collect from the final accommodation on departure day.

Request a price for each actual route

Ask the booking team to identify each journey and its price separately, even if you prefer one written confirmation for the whole itinerary. For each leg, clarify the details below.

The website’s STI round-trip transfer information describes its established return-transfer offer. Do not assume that a quoted STI round-trip price or discount applies unchanged when the departure airport is POP. Ask the team to confirm how your particular combination is priced.

If a booking form offers an STI return journey, that selection alone is not confirmation of a POP departure. State the different airport clearly in your request and check that it appears in the team’s reply.

  • Exact origin and destination.
  • Local travel date.
  • Passenger and luggage requirements.
  • Confirmed vehicle category.
  • Price, currency and what is included.
  • Payment arrangements and any outstanding amount.

Calculate departure pickup from the POP flight

Your departure plan needs a fresh calculation from the final accommodation to POP. Do not copy the hotel pickup time recommended for a flight from STI. Start with the airline’s airport-arrival guidance and check-in or baggage-drop deadlines for your POP flight. Then agree a collection time that accounts for the factors below.

A flight’s departure time is not its check-in deadline. Completing online check-in also does not remove any applicable baggage-drop or boarding requirements.

Confirm the full property name and address, plus the lobby, entrance or gate where you will meet the vehicle. Ask the accommodation about checkout, luggage storage and access arrangements if they affect your departure. Your bags should be ready at the agreed collection time. Checkout and collecting stored luggage are tasks to finish before that time, rather than activities to begin when the driver arrives.

  • The road journey from your final property to POP.
  • Expected conditions for that date and time.
  • Loading luggage and leaving the property.
  • Additional margin appropriate to the itinerary.

Recheck passengers and luggage for the departure leg

The group leaving may differ from the group that arrived. Some guests may stay longer, leave from STI or travel on another date. Confirm the actual passengers for the POP journey, along with every suitcase, stroller, sports bag and special requirement. Do not assume the arrival vehicle or luggage arrangement remains suitable.

If your party splits between STI and POP, describe two departure groups. A vehicle cannot be treated as a confirmed solution for both airports unless that complete itinerary has been specifically agreed.

The useful feature of a coordinated private journey is that the plan can be discussed in advance. It still depends on the operator accepting the route, vehicle requirements and schedule.

Keep one final confirmation that names both airports

Before travelling, check that your written arrangements clearly distinguish the two airport journeys. Adapt the request below with your actual details.

If the airline changes your departure airport, treat that as a change to the transfer route, not merely a new flight number. Ask for revised acceptance, timing and pricing, then check the updated confirmation.

To discuss your itinerary with STI VIP, request your transfers and begin with the clearest detail: ‘We arrive at STI and depart from POP.’ Confirm each journey before considering the full transport plan settled.
